What are shatterproof bulbs?
Shatterproof bulbs are lamps coated with special material to contain broken glass, phosphor, and possibly mercury, from broken bulbs. They come in all forms, including fluorescent, incandescent, HID, CFL, and globes.
How do they work?
Similar to plastic sleeves or tube guards that are used to shield fluorescent tubes, shatterproof bulbs hold the glass shards from contaminating areas that need protection from exposed glass.
